Art, My second try

Art second painting
Once I finished my first painting of the pier I did a painting of a hill with a tree in front of the sunset. I think I did better using paints then watercolor and I am happier with this painting then my first. It took longer using paints because I had to make the colors I wanted because we had limited colors.

Shelly Ann similes

SHELLY ANN
Shelly Ann is as fast as a cheetah chasing her prey
Shelly Ann is as tall as the Eiffel Tower on top of one million giraffes
Shelly Ann is as small as a molecule

Landscape Art

The Pier Art
This term we went for a walk to the beach to draw the local community.I drew a picture of the Pier.Although it didn't turn out like I wanted it. Using watercolor took a while and while I was coloring it I wished that I could paint the rest.We watched some videos about coloring and paint a landscape and a video about watercolors.

Sense Poem Pain

PAIN
Pain is deep scarlett
Pain tastes like disgusting medicine
Pain smells like musty hospitals
Pain looks like blood

Pain feels like a needle in you heart

My First day back at school

The First Day Back At School

It was Monday the 14th and I only realized that after I had nearly put on mufti so quickly I put on My purple and orange uniforms . I was exhausted after holidays the but that wouldn't stop me from being happy that I was going to see my friends again but I still did not want to go to school.

I dragged myself into the kitchen to make my Lunch for the day. Warmness slithered over me as I drank my delicious hot chocolate. Soon after that I made breakfast which was my favorite Chocolate cereal . Mum did my hair in two french plaits once I finished my delectable breakfast. When I was ready for school I hopped on my Sky Blue and Fiery red bike then biked to My friend Clara's house as quick as a flash.

Once I had met Clara we chatted away and again nearly forgot to bike to school. We had to bike to school in a hurry so we could both play with our friends before the school bell rang.As we chanted the Karakia a light of happiness dashed through me . When we did writing I was so jealous because one of the peoples recounts was about going to SPAIN. For Reading we read a story about a girl who had Queen Bee Syndrome then we did the activities. For maths we did mathematics sheets that were based on fractions and Multiplication.

At the end of the day everyone got out their topic books and looked around the room at some pictures that famous artist drew and wrote down all the pictures they liked. We did this to see what kind of painting style we liked so we could draw the community in that style. At home I biked home with my Mum.

Ecosytems

Ecosystems

In the past few weeks Alison's kaiawhina we have been working with Talei on ecosystem and Climate change. To build an ecosystem you had to have three crucial things in it the first thing is a consumer e.g snails or fish i used snails but after the first week of having them I let them go the second thing was a decomposer e.g worms I didn't use worms so I used soil but most of the other groups did the third thing is a plant I used a sweet pea another good idea of what to use is a strawberry plant because like a sweet they grow fast.We had to make an ecosystem and here is how you make them.

What you need

.Soil

.Consumer

.Producer seeds

.Pebbles

. Tall wide clear container

.Food for your consumer

.Water

.Drill

. Milk bottle lid

. working gloves

.something from where you found the consumer

How to make it:

Put Holes in the top of your clear container with the drill ( make sure you have parent permission)

Put pebbles at the bottom of your container ( make sure they only do a ground cover)

Put gloves on and fill the container a little less than half way with soil

Put the seeds in the container with space between each seed and compact them down

Place some pebbles around the container edge on top of the soil

Put in something from the consumers natural habitat in the container on top of the soil

Put the milk bottle lid in the Corner of the container and fill it with water

Water the soil so the seeds will grow

Place the consumers in gently

Shut the lid so the consumers can't escape
Make sure you water the ecosystem each day with a bit of water to feed the plant
I hope you follow these instructions and have fun with making your ecosystem.

Winter Sport

Winter sports reflection

Winter sports is when year 5,6,7 and 8 go out of school to play a sport for their school. It was a great experience to go out of school to play netball.
When I did winter sports, I played in the year 5 and 6 netball team with lots of other people who had either played netball before or had never played never before.
We got taught how to play by coaches from Avonside Girls. My coaches were called Cassie and Anya. They taught us how to do warm ups e.g Windows, Over and under, name passing and 7’s.
They gave us advice after each game and they gave one of the players Player of the day . I got player of the day 4 or 5 times.
When you were the Captain, you did paper, scissors, rock and if you won, you got to choose if you had the ball or the goal of your choice and at the end of the game the coaches chose one player of the day and the captain chose the other.

Kitchen Science

Kitchen science
In Alison Kiawhina for inquiry this term we have been looking at kitchen science with Kathy.
I found all the experiments really fun and enjoyable to watch the combinations to do a chemical reaction or a physical reaction. I had some favorites for this inquiry and they were turning milk to stone and Elephants tooth pastes. I liked elephant's toothpaste because I never knew that if you put yeast and water into detergent, Hydrogen peroxide and food coloring that it would cause a chemical reaction and explode. I liked Milk to stone because it was so epic seeing the milk and vinegar separate into liquid and solid. After 42 hours it was too hard to break with bare hands. While doing the experiments I learnt that in solids the tiny Molecules Are packed tightly to make the object packed firmly, In liquids the Molecules are packed lose enough so they can move around a tiny bit and the liquid fits into the shape it is in and for gas the Molecules are packed so they have a lot of room to move around. It was so amazing to learn that the whole world is made of the exact same thing called Matter. Matter is made of Minuscule Atoms and 2 or more Atoms joined together are called molecules and groups of molecules are called substance.

Super Spheros

In Tane Mahuta we have Rise rotations, Rise rotations are when three teachers come to our class on a Thursday and do really fun things for example battle bots and multiple challenges. This term in Alison kaiawhina we have been doing battle bots.
First we had to design the bot we were going to use for battling. We got to use 2 pieces of plain card, Felts to make it look pretty, tape ,scissors straws, and Plastic cups. To make it we had to cut a hole in the paper and slide the cup through and tape it.

When I used the battle bots / spheros I learnt that team work was essential and that you had to be very focused. One big thing we had to do ll the time was make sure the little light on the side of the sphero was always facing us because that made the aim was good.
When we did the test with the battle bots we decided that the design was really good with a wide base because it made sure the sphero was staying in the battle bot and it wouldn't run away and that it was very stable. The only design we changed was the colouring because we really wanted to get a place in the best dressed battle bot. When had finished colouring the battle bot we chose to call it the dancing Taniwha because it had a tutu.around the base.

I thought that the design really worked well and that our team work was really great because we had a great plan that if Meg coloured in the battle bot and I did the making that it would be faster and we have more time to get used to driving the battle bot around.
Next time I think that we could decide who was the best drive out of me and Meg and that would be the main driver. I also think that having more time to do the design would be good so we could have neater colouring and more precise designs.

Meg and me did well as being buddies because we had the same Ideas about how to make the battle bots a we did not argue about who was doing what. I think choosing Meg as a buddy was good because we worked really well together. We did pretty well with driving the battle bots and we popped 7 balloons that were on the bottom of the battle bots, To pop the balloons we had to aim that pin on our bot in the direction of the balloon. The rise values (Resilience, Integrity, Success and Empathy) we used were Resilience because we kept on trying when things weren't going our way and success for when we successfully popped the balloons.

This is our Battle Bot.

This is our battle bot design.

Levers and Pulleys

Levers and Pulleys.
In inquiry this term with Alison I learnt about levers and pulleys. The first activities I did were with Meg, The first activity was building a catapult out of Popsicle sticks , a cotton ball , rubber bands and a spoon what I did was use Popsicle sticks to make the base of the catapult and tied them together and then attached the spoon to the top , after building the base I put a cotton ball in the catapult and then bent the spoon back and fired it the cotton ball went so far. The second activity was also based on levers and we learnt a bit more about the fulcrum and the importance of it. We had to use a ruler , vivid, cups and cubes. We used the vivid as the fulcrum and taped it to the table, I balanced the ruler on the fulcrum and taped the two cups to either side of the ruler and put as many cubes as I could to make them balance. When I did the challenge at the end of the third week my group of three built a simple machine, on the simple machine we had 2 people (Meg and Charlotte) starting the creation they dropped the marbles into a cup which started the machine. The marbles rolled from the start ramp to two cups and one marble fell on the floor and the other went into a big ramp the lead of the seat and lead to a seesaw which made the marble drop into a glass of water. I think the creation was successful sometimes and other times it wasn't successful.I learnt that. . .when you use a lever it helps lift something too heavy to lift with your bare hands, I also learnt about fulcrums and that you need to move the fulcrum around to make things balance better, Learning about pulleys was the best because we used 1 pulley and then 2 pulleys and that it lifted the marble in a cup way easier.

The Mouse

The Mouse.

I can see the man peering from behind the couch I creep out from behind the box and the man is looking around in search for me.I creep out from behind the table and quietly run across to the kitchen bench the man still hasn't seen me. The man saw me and then as quick as a flash he ducks behind the couch. I start to climb up what looks like an oversized bag and I see the peek once more from behind the couch he ducks hoping I didn't see him but I did. I keep on climbing and reach the top I walk past a jar of brightly colored candies . I hop across a spoon and dodge between items of cooking utensils. I see a box It kind of looks inviting . I run around the box checking out the outside I go around to the entrance peeking inside I cautiously walk inside and then the man peeks out from the couch revealing a toothy grin which then turns into a frown . The tap drips a deadly slow drip then the man smiles and jogs over to the box . I creep into corner afraid of what he will do . The man lets out a shriek and then starts dancing an awkward jig. I see his shadow peer over the box and then the tapping from the jig starts once more. He turns to the box and his joyful smile disappears. The man looks at the newspaper on the bench that had once hidden me then an idea strikes his head. I start to move to one side of the box hoping that it will tip off the table and I can escape but before my plan continues the man's hand slaps against the box ugh I am done for. He tries to reach for the newspaper but he just isn't far enough his finger bumps the paper. He’s carrying me out to the window I might escape. He constantly puts me outside hesitating as he hears a cat's meow.
I'm under the burning lamp in the giant man’s bedroom. He’s staring at me through the microscopic gaps in the box. He looks away at something I can't make out maybe the kitchen or lounge . I am waiting for about 3 minutes, with him away for that amount of time I am expecting that he is making me food. My assumption is wrong. He has come back with a killing machine ( when really it's only a fork) of course like most stories and the mouse always dies in the end. The killing machine is coming down fast at the box then it slows down at this time would rather be stabbed to death instead of losing oxygen very slowly. It seems my thoughts about the huge man are wrong he only prodding holes in the box so I can breathe. He gasps letting a huge gust of wind showers over me. He scamper across to the kitchen and grabs bread and some water in a bottle cap. He slides the water into my box I'm not interested in it . He breaks the bread into multiple crumbs and chooses the largest one for me. I wait their for a while and decide to put a bit of drama into his life. I push the crumbs out of the box he leans in closer to the box and then I see light . I tap my tail impatiently waiting for something to happen he toward the kitchen I nod hoping he will understand my want. He pushes back the bread and I am annoyed but scared so I lean back in shock. I turn away and I don't care if he thinks i´m arrogant while i'm turned in the other direction and he plucks up the bread. I am mad at myself because now he has eaten the bread and I was so hungry. He waves his hand around his clenched fist and the bread re appears that was just boring magic but still I was surprised. He places the bread on the table and I slowly creep forward I reach the bread and scamper away, he leans towards me ,my heart skips a beat then he places his hand only inches away from me. I run behind the bench , I have been waiting for what feels like forever and slowly the day turns into night and I have decided to get out from my hiding spot . I can see the huge beast of a man from the lamp in the kitchen and he sound asleep . I climb up the couch leg and reach the man's arm. His clothes are soft like silk and I can see some chip crumbs . I clamber across to the crumbs and pick up in my greedy mouth. I walk up to his shoulder and I want to sleep but instead I climbed to the ground and scurries underneath a chair. The man is silent for a while then his eyes blink open as quick as a flash and then the night is silent again.

Kiamanawa

Horses.
When you are riding a horse you should wear long pants or jodhpurs to stop your legs chafing or pinching against the saddle , and closed in shoes and with heel if you have any. Avoid wearing clothing that can catch against the saddle and stirrups because that could cause an accident.
There are around 58,372,106 horses in the world. A Falabella is one of the most tiny ponies in the world a fully grown one is about 1 metre tall. The smallest ever horses are Thumbelina who is 43 cm and einstein who is not even one meter tall.
Kaimanawa are one of the only native horses in New Zealand. In Maori Kaimanawa means Gardener. Kiamanawa are meant for their hardiness and temperament.Usually Kiamanawa are found in the wild but in some farms they are kept as pets to do showjumping, cross country , hunter cross but not as much dressage.
Kaimanawa are endangered species and they are sensitive to loud noise.

Kids Teach

Kids Teach
In term 2 we a program called kids teach . In kids teach everyone if they wanted to could sign up to teach a group of people how to do something there were a lot of different things some were outside activities like netball , cricket and touch rugby and some were inside activities such as drawing , dancing and computer work.
During the three sessions of kids teach I taught a dance to six people the style was jazz and the song was shake it off we got about half way through. In the last session I went online and learnt how to draw some pretty cool things.
The positive things that happened while teaching were asking people to dance by themselves for a while and that they all had a go other positive thing we're seeing all of them trying their hardest. While being taught positive thing were the kid teachers encouraging me and complimenting my work.
The things I enjoyed the most watching everyone having lots of fun learning the dance we taught them and also learning how to draw lots of cool things.
To make the kids teach program better I think that the sessions should be longer so we can teach more things and learn more things . Otherwise it was great. It would be really fun to do it again so other people can teach things and other people can learn stuff so it isn't the same people teaching and learning . It would also be fun to do it again so I can do another dance that is contemporary this time and to teach different people.

Tuatara
The Tuatara is a type of reptile. They are the only reptile in its order of species.Tuatara have exesited for over 225 million years. Their closest relatives are dinosaurs. They can live up to 100 years of age.

Tuatara eat wetas, crickets, insects, other lizards and strangely they eat baby Tuatara.Tuatara are very unique animals they have different habits to lizards.
Tuatara are endangered reptiles. When polonesian arrived in NZ they introduced rats which have been killing Tuatara.

Mothers day poem

What do you think about my poem?

MOTHERS DAY POEM
Dear Mum ,
Did you know…
You are like the best friend I have never had.
You could be a ballerina even if you aren't trying.
You are my sunshine making another perfect day appear.
You have a smile like the rising sun.
You are a shield protecting me from the bad.
You are brighter than the full moon at night.
You are like a fairy granting all of my wishes.
You are as rich as a millionaire but much richer in your heart.
You are smarter than a teacher.
I love you more than anything.
Happy mothers day
Love Isla.❤

The Marble Run

The marble run
This term my group has been completing STEM challenges. My favorite one so far is the marble run. I really liked it because me and my buddy (Meg) created a tower that made the marble roll three meters. It was a bit challenging at first and the tower wobble then we aced it. Next time we think we should add more support to the structure. We would really love to do it again and try make it roll 5 meters.

Camp at Wiapra reflection

CAMP REFLECTION
On Wednesday all the exited year 6s got onto the bus and drove to Waipara it took us 45 minutes but it felt like 10 minutes. For the first activity had archery we had to try fire the arrow into the tiny blue circley My favourite activities were Archery and the giant swing because in archery I felt so good when I got one circle from the middle I would do that again and in the giant sing you got choked on the way up and felt like I was flying on the way down.
My favourite meal was apple crumble because it tasted like sugar. One of my challenges was getting to sleep because Lily was crying really loudly.I made a connection with Kiwa from Tawhirimatea. When I got home I collapsed on my bed. I LOVE GOING TO CAMP. I would totally do it again!
